Whether you’re here for a quiet, romantic mini break for 2 or after a fun filled adventure holiday with the whole family, we’ve come up with 6 of the top things to do in the local area that everyone can enjoy.

 

Distilleries

With a rich history in distilling, Fife has strong roots in whisky and gin distilling. Perfect for connoisseurs and enthusiasts, there are plenty of local distilleries around Lindores providing a great day out. Right on our doorstep is Lindores Abbey Distillery, which offers a modern approach to whisky-making within their beautiful, Medieval surroundings – a must visit for any whisky lover. As a tribute to the earliest ‘aqua vitae’ that was made at Lindores Abbey in 1494, Lindores Abbey Distillery have recently launched their first bottled release of ‘Aqua Vitae’ so be sure to book a tour for the brand-new release! Also discover the unique Kingsbarn; this recently converted derelict farm is now home to its own distillery and visitor centre, producing single malt whisky in oak casks. Their first bottled release of Kingsbarns Single Malt Whisky will be available from April 2018. As for gin and craft beer enthusiasts, Eden Mill offers a wide range of craft gin, beer, whisky and ale with specialised tours for each. Eden Mill also offer unique gifts and blending masterclasses; ideal for couples or larger groups.

 

St. Andrews

Situated only 30 minutes’ drive away from Lindores, St. Andrews provides a fantastic day out with its famous selection of restaurants, bars, shops, golf courses and of course culture and history landmarks. With a whole host of attractions to choose from, from St. Andrews Cathedral to St. Andrews Aquarium for a day out with the kids, other attractions also include St. Andrews Botanic Gardens and various walking tours. Explore local restaurants such as the newly opened Restaurant at Kinnettles, as well as a host of independent boutiques and traditional bars. No trip to St. Andrews would be complete without a game of golf with their host of famous courses! Choose from St. Andrews Links, The Old Course, Kingsbarns Golf Links and many more.

 

Outlander Locations

For Outlander fans, Fife is home to many of the famous filming locations. Steeped in history, locations such as Falkland, Culross and Dunfermline Abbey are all nearby and offer tours of the surrounding areas. These sites offer striking beauty and are awash with historic landmarks, woodland walks, pubs and cafes. Visit the picturesque villages of Culross and Falkland, home to the stunning Falkland Palace or travel to nearby Dunfermline to visit the city’s Abbey and other historic landmarks.

 

Outdoor Pursuits

For those looking for adventure, there’s plenty of options for you to choose from – discover local routes and trails for mountain biking and horse riding (including of course our own horse riding grounds and facilities) as well as the Barbarafield Riding School just outside Cupar. Other action-packed activities include Blown Away and horse riding grounds and facilities for race car and supercar experiences, 4×4 off road driving, go karting and rally driving. Blown Away specialise in beach-based activities including land yachting, beach kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and many more adventure activities.

 

Restaurants

Fife is home to some of the best restaurants in Scotland, famed for the best quality, locally sourced produce. Recent Masterchef winner Jamie Scott’s The Newport Restaurant serves flavoursome Scottish food using the best of local ingredients, with gorgeous views overlooking the Tay. The Peat Inn situated in St. Andrews offers traditional Scottish fayre and is highly recommended and well worth a visit. Also situated just outside St. Andrews is Balgove Larder and Steak Barn. This farm shop and café offers local produce and meat from the farm whilst the rustic sawmill Steak Barn offers fresh and seasonally inspired dishes. Balgove Larder also offers butchery classes and their own lively night markets throughout the year, showcasing live music and plenty of vendors to provide you with street style food and craft beverages from local talents.

 

Family Day Out

From adventure play parks to aquariums and fruit farms, Fife provides a huge range of activities and things to do on a day out with the kids. Only a 20-minute drive away from Lindores is Muddy Boots; this farm shop and café is perfect for a day out with the kids with their soft play area and attractions such as pottery classes, zorbing and the giant sandpit. The café provides home cooked food whilst the onsite farm offers fresh fruit and veg, home baking and more. Cairnie Fruit Farm also offers an onsite farm shop where you can pick your own fruit, visit the café or have fun in the mega maze. Other activities at Cairnie Fruit Farm include swings, slides, peddle tractors, go-kart tracks, trampolines and climbing fortress! For younger ones and toddlers, Sloth Play (part of Fife Zoo which is set to open fully in 2018) is a purpose built soft play area for explorers aged from 0 – 12. Ideal for those keen on wildlife, The Scottish Deer Centre provides a great day out for the whole family with their range of rare species, ranger tours and bird shows.
