By car:
Take the M8 westbound from Glasgow & Glasgow International Airport to
Greenock. Drive through Greenock Town Centre, following signs for Gourock. Look for brown
Scottish Tourist Board signs to guide you to Lindores House, at 61 Newark Street.
By Rail:
Frequent trains leave Glasgow Central for Fort Matilda Station in Greenock. Turn right at
the railway station entrance and walk up the hill for 1/4 mile.
By ferry:
Caledonian MacBrayne has a complete online listing of current timetables and road
maps, covering all services throughout Scotland. CalMac services are frequent and fast,
but can be very busy during peak seasons. If you plan to tour extensively in the area,
Island Hopscotch and Island Rover tickets offer attractive discounts on a variety of
pre-planned routes.
For the Clyde Coast, the CalMac ferry at Gourock Pier Head takes 20 minutes to Cowal
(Dunoon). From Wemyss Bay, it's 30 minutes to Rothesay (Isle of Bute). Also at Gourock,
the Western Ferry takes the Hunter's Quay/McInroy Point
(Dunoon) route in 15 minutes.
